Don’t I need to hire an architect?
Our Unique Expertise
While we are happy to execute construction based on existing architectural drawings, with Cedar Winds design-build, you do not need to hire an architect. Cedar Winds is registered with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and authorized to draw plans. Hiring Cedar Winds to do your design has additional benefits as well:
- Our qualified Architectural Design Technologists create a one-of-a-kind design for you. With a clear understanding of our local climate, they are also able to provide you with unique design element ideas.
- Cedar Winds has more than 20 years’ experience working with the various local bylaws in the region and obtaining minor variances* when needed. We factor in the time it takes to process building permits in the design phase, eliminating unwanted delays during the build phase.
*“Minor variances” refer to parts of a design or project that require exemptions to the local building code. Common variances include setback requirements, restrictions on height, and allowable square footage of new construction.

To Renovate or Rebuild?
Resolve Your Cottage Conundrum
Unless you have a sentimental attachment to the building, it’s often more economical and easier to teardown and build new. In retrofit situations you often have to address pre-existing issues such as mould, cracks in the foundation, and out-dated plumbing and wiring before you can begin. New construction also gives you complete flexibility in terms of size, room layout, and flow.
